Our Solution
The Magnolia Project helps engage and prepare middle and high school students for life’s next phase after K-12. We empower students, many of whom have limited resources, to shape their own economic futures through community-connected learning that bridges education, mentorship, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Our Logic Model
When students are supported, affirmed, and comprehensively prepared for this meaningful next phase, they and their families, communities, and local economies will flourish around them. Quantitative research and case studies support the impact of this formal but supportive and individualized approach.
Our Approach
Our approach acknowledges the student’s ultimate accountability for educational and career goals by providing:
Career exploration and apprenticeships - These programs offer exposure to mentors, industries, and careers, demonstrating that “life after high school” planning can solidify personal interests, spark excitement, and build on strengths.
More than a one-size-fits-all solution - At Magnolia Project, there is no default pathway into which students are tracked. Our programs support all students in their next steps, including college, trade school, the workplace, military service, or a gap year.
Though we help students weigh the potential costs and benefits of their choices, we do not sort or track students based on their future plans, nor do we pre-select experiences for students or otherwise attempt to influence their choices.
A plan for the future, with a “village” to support it - After completing their program, each Magnolia Project student develops a plan for their next phase.
This plan is shared with teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, and family members — ensuring that they are aware of the student’s aspirations, and can work together to support them.
